These are renderings of a baluster project I am currently working on. The balusters are from Sapele, an African import, that is well suited for exterior applications. It looks much like mahogany though not as expensive. The balusters are 3 1/2 inches X 30 inches high. The bottom rail (4 inches W X 2 3/8 inches high) has an up side down "V" and the balusters have the corresponding notch. This sheds water rapidly to minimize the risk of water rot. The top rail is 4 1/2 inches W X 2 1/4 inches high with a convex top to shed water as well.
