These Sapele balusters were produced for a customer in Atlanta, GA. The owners' architect, Laura Dupree, designed them and contracted Architectural Turnings to turn them. The 170 balusters measure 3 1/2 inches X 30 inches high. Sapele is an import from Africa and resembles mahogany, only darker in color. Sapele has a superior rot and insect resistance much like Spanish Cedar but will not bleed through paint like Spanish Cedar. It machines well, paints well and stains well. And though it resembles mahogany it cost about half as much.
