This is a fine example of 3/4 kitchen island legs framing a kitchen sink bump-out. The granite counter follows the bump-out and draws attention to the copper sink.  I did the same thing a few years ago but instead of the 3/4 columns we used fluted pilasters.  Image from Boston Home Designs
