This is a radiused crown molding made for a local cabinet maker that I turned on my lathe. This type of crown was common in Louisiana french style cabinetry (armois). Armois (pronounced arm wah) was a large free standing piece of furniture that predated the closet in function. They always included a large cornice and in the French tradition the corners of the cornice was radiused (see below). I suspect the cabinet maker was using them for some similar piece of furniture. The straight crown would connect to radiused crown on the front and sides of the armois. The wood on this project was cypress.
