This newel rendering is based on a newel I made for a customer some time back. He sort of copied a carved newel made by a company here in the USA. He did not want the carving and so contracted us to make the turned newel version. I really like the design. The mushroom top is quite nice, I think. The most distinctive feature though is the large base (5 1/2 inches wide) and smaller top (3 1/2 inches wide). The image here does not do it justice. Large post to post newels (5 1/2 inches and up) seem quite large visually at the top and so this solves the problem by making a smaller top.
