I don't make many box newels. I don't really receive that many request for custom box newels. This is a design that I like. I particularly like the chamfered top instead of the newel cap which is more prevalent. The fluting is nice too I think. The star could be substituted with a flower or fleur-de-lis (which is becoming quite popular since the Saints won the Superbowl.
The newel measures 7 1/2 inches at the base and is 54 inches high.
