Synopsis: Fluted Greek Column Newels



These beautiful poplar Greek column newels were turned for a customer in Aspen Colorado.The starter newels are the larger fluted newels.  The shorter newels are for balcony and landing.  One of the more unusual features of these newels are the square top caps.  The handrails were to fastened to the round section of the newel.  The caps would therefore rise above the handrail.  And so the square caps would probably inadvertently be used as a convenient place to put your glass or cup.  Sometimes design features create  unintended consequences.  Ha
