Synopsis: Haunched Stair Newel

newel

You have probably not heard the term "haunched" before - especially in regard to a stair newel. The word haunch refers to the king of machine used to make this kind of newel or any other similarly shaped wood part. As you can see from the rendering the newel was not turned on a lathe.  It is not round at any point of the profile (the balusters, on the other hand, were turned on a lathe).  I love the design but as of yet do not own a hauncher machine so this one newel is not available to sell as of yet.
The newel measures 8 inches wide at the base X 54 inches high.
