Synopsis: Kitchen Island Leg Applications

I have titled this "Kitchen Island Legs Applications"but it really pertains to any cabinet leg (even legs for a vanity cabinet. I put together several graphics to suggest the placement of those brand new cabinet legs that you just purchased. You may not realize how many ways there are to apply these legs. So here we go:
  • The full round leg:  This is more likely to be used in and island setting as a counter top support.  The full uncut (except possibly for the length) island leg is used to literally support a counter top used as a sitting area.

  • The second cabinet leg application is with a split or half cabinet leg. Note that I've illustrated this with a bump-out perhaps for a sink or range top. Note also that I've added a block at the base of the cabinet leg to fill in the toe kick area.

  • Another application with the cabinet leg is a 3/4 (three quarter) cabinet leg. A quarter of the leg is cut out and the leg is attached to a corner of the cabinetry. This is probably best for a kitchen island. The legs proceed full to the floor in my illustration with no toe kick on the island.

  • Sort of the reverse of the outside corner 3/4 leg is the inside corner 1/4 (one quarter) leg. This leg can be used to good effect for bump-outs. In my illustration I have eliminated the toe kick behind the leg and continued it just adjacent to the quartered leg.
  • And finally for my grand finale, the clipped corner cabinet leg. This leg is applied to cabinetry with a clipped corner. It is both useful for islands as well as bump-outs. The clipped corner leg is split diagonally unless the island leg is round though out. My illustration has no toe kick so the clipped island leg is full all the way down.
