  Baluster Gallery

Baluster Pictures

These are a few example of the baluster I have turned. Some were reproductions as you can tell from the original placed with the new balusters. Others were created from pictures or drawings sent to me. The redish balusters are made of Spanish Cedar and are for exterior applications. If you'd like to see any other examples of my work email me.

  2. The top right frame is a picture of ten inch finials shipped to NY, I think, for a fence detail.
  3. Middle left frame includes a pair of handsome barley twisted fireplace columns six inches X fifty inches
  4. Middle right panel - reeded kitchen island legs.
  5. Bottom left is a pair of six inch island legs turned for a friend.
  6. And the bottom right frame is one of two six inch island legs for a local cabinet maker.

These are a few more assorted images of turnings that we have done.

  2. Top right is a cabinet we built for a friend with applied turnings fastened to the face frame.
  3. The middle left is a bookcase with a rope twisted split columns applied o the face frames.
  4. The middle right frame is an image of table legs turned in two wood species in two different sizes.
  5. The bottom left frame is a couple of applied split kitchen legs recessed into a sink cabinet.
  6. And lastly on the bottom right are poplar bun feet.

Newel Pictures

Newels are one of the turnings we are most often requested to make. The challenge for most home owners and builders is that your local lumber yard and home center is very unlikely to have a newel larger in width than 3 to 3 1/2" inches. More than likely, that newel will be made of red oak. Ands so, not only are home owners restricted to small newels but to only one wood species. If you're really after something with a little more mass or if you're simply after the "wow" factor you will start to look around for someone that can create something unique and tasteful.

Stairways are often the architectural element that is seen when you walk throught the front door. They are, more often than not, crafted to be a showcase. So if you're trying to make a good first impression with your stairway, a larger newel is a good choice.
