Newel Caps
There are a few different kinds of newels. As you can see from the graphic below there are post-to post newels (type A) and over the post newels (type B and C).   When using type A, the post-to-post newel, the handrail joins the square top and the top of the newel rises above the handrail.  Type B is the newel we make more often than not it seems. This is an over-the-post newel.  The handrail is joined to the newel cap and is continuous (except for the little decorative ball I’ve added).  Type C shows the pin top that connects to the handrail fitting for this over-the-post newel.  Type B has a pin below the cap
