Lighthouse Newel Post
This is one of my newer Stair Post Newel designs. It has become one of our more requested newels from customers that desire a maritime theme. I have produced these for a few coastal homes but a number of inland customers prefer these as well. You can see an example of one here: lighthouse newel post. These were crafted for a customer on the Mississippi coast.
The lighthouse newels are typically made in a paint grade wood such as poplar. I prefer the painted look so that the lighthouse “lines” do not compete with stained wood grain. The larger 7 inch bases lighthouse newel requires the installer to “cope” the handrail (handrail fitting) to mate the cylindrical portion just below the top section. The 7″ newel is often used as the starter and the smaller 5 1/2″ is used at landings and balconies. The smaller 5 1/2″ over-the-post lighthouse newel requires a rail fitting to connect the handrail. The lighthouse newels post are shipped ready to paint or stain.
